The Beauty of God

Wsfchurch   -

HELLO FRIENDS,

Look up and Look around. Do you see it?

It’s the beauty of God on display.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take a little vacation. Every morning, I would take a long walk by myself. Solitude is a gift, if we allow it to be!

Each morning I was so thrilled by how God revealed something beautiful about who He is. One day, it was the beauty of his creation as I faced a majestic mountain that still had snow on it on an early summer day. Another day was the gift of unexpected companionship. On one of the walks, God dropped a scripture in my mind that I needed in that moment. Yet another day, I experienced pure joy in an interaction with a stranger. Every experience reminded me of the beauty of God and I also began to notice that my awareness of God heightened with each experience.

The beauty of God speaks of His glory: everything about him that is stunning or striking or breathtaking that fills our hearts with delight. The beauty of God includes his attributes, his love, his holiness, his power, his infinite goodness, his ability to make all things new. God’s beauty draws us to himself and to the gift of life that he offers us to the fullest.

It turns out God has an impressive resumé of revealing his beauty to his people and in his people. It’s all over Scripture! Check out some of these verses:

“O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens!” Psalm 8:1

“Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.” Psalm 34:5

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, I know it very well.”  Psalm 139:13-14

“See what kind of love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” 1 John 1:3

“And God saw everything what he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning on the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31

There is an old hymn I used to sing growing up in church. It’s called Something Beautiful. The first few lines speak to the beauty of God. It says:

Something beautiful, something good

All my confusion He understood

All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife

But he made something beautiful of my life

Wherever you are today, God has something beautiful he wants to show you. Something beautiful he wants to make out of your life.

My prayer for us today comes from Psalm 90:17 which says, “May the beauty of the Lord God be upon us.” And may our response be, “Lord, We are watching!”

Look up, look around. It’s the beauty of God on display!
