Who Do You Say I Am?

HELLO FRIENDS,

This summer I have been reading and re-reading a portion of scripture and each time I read it something different speaks to me. I love that about the Bible. It’s alive and active and has the power to change us year after year.

Matthew 16:13-18 says this:

“When Jesus arrived in the villages of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “What are people saying about who the Son of Man is?”

They replied, “Some think he is John the Baptizer, some say Elijah, some Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

He pressed them, “And how about you? Who do you say I am?”

Simon Peter said, “You’re the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus came back, “God bless you, Simon, son of Jonah! You didn’t get that answer out of books or from teachers. My Father in heaven, God himself, let you in on this secret of who I really am.”

Friends, the world can only take their best guess as to who Jesus really is because they don’t know Him. They haven’t spent time with Him. They don’t know Jesus personally. They have only heard about Him from others, or read about Him or maybe can say they have observed from a distance.

But, the disciples have. They walked and talked with Jesus. They shared life together, eaten meals, laughed and cried together. They’ve learned, been discipled and equipped by Him. They not only saw his miracles, but participated in them. They deeply loved Him because their personal encounters with Jesus transformed their lives.

They can truly say and believe Jesus is the Christ, their savior, the Son of the living God.

So getting back to the original question and to give YOU something to ponder: Who do YOU say Jesus is?
