YOUTH PASTOR

TITLE: Youth Pastor

JOB TYPE: Full Time (40 hours) salaried with benefits

DESCRIPTION: The Full-Time Youth Pastor is responsible for developing and overseeing the youth ministry of the church, working with middle and high school students (grades 6-12) to foster spiritual growth, discipleship, and community involvement. This role requires a passionate, creative, and relational leader who will mentor and guide students in their faith while partnering with parents, volunteers, and church leadership to create a vibrant and transformative youth ministry.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Spiritual Leadership & Discipleship:
    • Lead, teach, and mentor students in their relationship with Jesus Christ through Bible studies, small groups, and personal interactions.
    • Develop and implement a Christ-centered curriculum that is biblically sound, age-appropriate, and spiritually engaging for both middle and high school students.
    • Encourage spiritual growth through regular prayer, worship, and Bible engagement within the youth group.
    • Lead weekly youth services or gatherings, creating opportunities for worship, teaching, and fellowship.
    • Provide one-on-one counseling and spiritual mentorship to students, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
  • Programming & Events:
    • Plan, organize, and execute regular youth events, including weekly meetings, retreats, mission trips, service projects, social events, and other outreach activities.
    • Coordinate yearly summer camps to foster spiritual renewal and deeper relationships among students.
    • Develop a yearly calendar of events that aligns with the mission and vision of thE church, ensuring a balanced focus on fellowship, service, and evangelism.
  • Volunteer & Team Development:
    • Recruit, train, and equip volunteer leaders to help lead youth group activities, small groups, and events.
    • Build a strong, supportive team of youth leaders and volunteers who are committed to the spiritual growth and discipleship of students.
    • Provide ongoing support and training for volunteers to ensure they are effective in their roles and can build healthy relationships with students.
  • Parent & Family Support:
    • Foster strong relationships with parents, providing resources and guidance to help them support the spiritual development of their children.
    • Offer counsel and support to parents as they navigate issues facing their students.
  • Administration & Communication:
    • Oversee the administrative functions of the youth ministry, including budgeting, scheduling, and event planning.
    • Maintain communication with students and parents through various platforms (e.g.,email, social media, etc.) to keep them informed of upcoming events, changes, and prayer requests.
    • Monitor the youth ministry’s progress and effectiveness by setting goals, evaluating programs, and gathering feedback from students, parents, and volunteers.
  • Leadership Development:
    • Develop future leaders within the youth group, encouraging students to take on leadership roles in ministry, service, and outreach.
    • Mentor and disciple student leaders, equipping them with the tools they need to lead others and grow in their faith.
  • Pastoral Care & Counseling:
    • Offer pastoral care to students, including counseling and support during times of crisis or personal challenges (e.g., family issues, peer pressure, mental health struggles).
    • Maintain confidentiality and provide a safe, welcoming environment for students to share their struggles and find biblical guidance.
  • Collaboration with Church Leadership:
    • Work closely with the Lead Pastor, Church Staff, and other ministries to ensure the youth ministry aligns with the overall vision and mission of the church.
    • Attend staff meetings and participate in church-wide initiatives, bringing the voice and perspective of the youth ministry to the larger church body.
    • Provide regular reports to the church leadership about the health, growth, and needs of the youth ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a passion for sharing the Gospel with youth.
  • Christian lifestyle that is in harmony with clear Biblical standards
  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Youth Ministry, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent ministry experience). Previous experience in youth ministry or working with teens is highly preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge, agreement, and adherence to the mission, vision, and core values of West Salem Foursquare Church
  • Handles confidential matters with discretion
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, independent worker with the leadership skills necessary to engage and lead teams
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and church leadership.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to recruit, lead and inspire a team of volunteers.
  • A compassionate, patient, and relational approach to mentoring and discipling students.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects anD responsibilities.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight events (e.g., retreats, mission trips).
  • Team Player with positive, servant-motivated attitude
  • Supports West Salem Foursquare Church with tithes and offerings
  • Experience in Planning Center Resources preferred.
